More than a million iPads sold, but who is using them?

Just as much of a hit the iPad has been in consumer, it’s been almost bigger as an enterprise tool at the highest reaches of business.

Today, Tim Cook told us that Apple has sold over 100M iPads in just 2 and a half years of existence. That’s pretty impressive and it’s about to get bigger.

Apple sold more than 1 million copies of iPads in the first 3 months. This gadget is definitely more than just a larger version of iPhone or iPod touch. With 4x the screen of an iPhone, the iPad’s display is ideal for reading and for presentations.

Last March at WWDC, Apple announced that it had sold over 365 million iOS devices globally since March 2012. But perhaps more important, Apple has just announced that its number 1 in US notebook sales. Mountain Lion, the newest version of OS X, has also been installed on 7 million devices.

“Now to put this in perspective, we sold more iPads than any PC manufacturer sold of their entire lineup.” That about says it all. Sales of the Apple iPad is exploding, with the company announcing it sold 84M units through June.

Steve Jobs boasts of 2 million iPads sold

Apple just released its earnings report for Q1 2013, ending in December of last year, with a solid hardware quarter overall. The iPhone dominated with 47.8 million units sold in the quarter, up quarterly and yearly, with Apple also breaking records with 22.9 million iPads sold. The iPhone 5 saw its first full quarter of availability this period, as well as a nice holiday sales boost.
