Moblin Desktop how to logout + gnome-shell memory usage

http://forums.fedoraforum.org – Hi friends, I recently installed F12 beta, and out of curiosity installed the Moblin Desktop environment. However i could not find any option to logout. I finally did a shutdown :) Anyone has any idea how to log out of moblin desktop Also i tried the gnome-shell. I seems to use a LOT of memory (RAM). While on gnome shell top gave me a usage of about 150 MB resident memory for mutter, and in addition there were some more memory guzzlers. Is it normal? Thanks (HowTos)

Gnome 3 memory usage help !!!! 50 weeks 4 days ago

hello everybody. I have installed fedora 17(64 bit) on my laptop with ubuntu 11.10 and windows 7 in triple boot. When i check the system monitor and see the RESOURCE tab. the memory usage is always around 470 Mb to 560 Mb.

There’re many desktop environments that work on Ubuntu system. Sometimes panel may disappear or error load after configuration error.

GNOME Shell, a user interface that provides functions for the GNOME 3 desktop environment, has just received a new update and it's now at version 3.8 Beta 1.

GNOME Shell 3.8 Beta 1 has been released in the branch that will eventually become GNOME Shell 3.8 and it does pack quite a lot of new features.

we found that if we use 'top' to show the memory usage of a server (SuSe Linux 10), we can get virtual memory usage as well as 'Resident memory' usage.

For virtual mem or a particular process, it is around 1.1GB, which is large but for resident memory, it only consumes 300MB.

Are there anyone who knows what the differences are?

Hi, I have recently installed Gnome shell and made some changes, mostly in Compiz but I guess my problem started after installing Compiz Fusion which I found out doesn't work with Gnome shell. There was the option to change desktop environments from Compiz to Metacity and the other way around. After playing around I realized that all of a sudden my mouse was quite slow.

hi what is the disadvantage of having multiple desktop environments like kde gnom xfce installed all .

when i have installed all of the above and then i login using gnome will be ram usage be increased ? i mean will there be extra thngs loaded into memory ? because i am using old p3 with 512mb ram..

also can i run softwares made for kde in gnome ? what are the disadvantage ?

I installed claire x86_64 version upon reading the news that 686 support would be dropped in the near future.Finding the memory usage to be exceptionally high, always hovering around 700-800mb with just firefox running (around 1-3 tabs open).
