How do I install ra3290.bin wireless driver into /lib/firmware
I updated my kernel to 3.8.5-030805-generic.
I did try the way posted in forums of sudo apt-get install nvidia-kernel-dkms nvidia-glx nvidia-xconfig nvidia-settings.
When I install the recommended drivers, even the latest from their ppa, on reboot, xwindows won't start, it just boots to a console login.
If I purge nvidia and reboot, it works with the builtin ubuntu drivers, even 3D, but system reports the experience as 'standard' using driver Gallium 0.4 on NV92 .
I would like to get nvidia drivers working to see if it performs better.
Tried the Nvidia driver, installed using the Additional Drivers panel. Didn't like it much; the CPU seemed to overheat more and the brightness controls stopped working. Also selecting a second display is a pain using that horrible NVidia settings thing.
So wanted to disabled it again..
I am a bit of a newbie to ubuntu and am having installation problems.
I'm working on an HP EliteBook 8560w machine which came pre-installed with Windows. I was able to install Ubuntu 12.04 alongside windows in a separate partition (Ubuntu automatically created the partition).
Hi all,I'm at wits end.I've been trying to get the nVidia drivers installed for about half the day.The drivers I download from nvidia.com will not compile no matter what I do.
I just built the latest kernel from source and all went well, except when I boot into the new kernel I have no graphics acceleration. When I boot into the other kernel (3.2.something) I have nvidia drivers.
Hi.
I've seen this problem, or similar, been posted on the forum earlier. I also know that is not a good line to start a new thread with.
Laptop: HP Pavillion tx1020, broadcom 4312, nVidia gf go 6150 graphics.
OS: Clean installed Ubuntu 9.10, downloaded yesterday.
I have had nothing but trouble trying to get linux working on this laptop, and would really appreciate some help. I recently switched over to the NVIDIA drivers because with the nouveau drivers on kernel 3.5.x I can't suspend. The problem I'm having is that I can't control my backlight with these drivers.
