I'm trying to dual-boot Fedora 17 and Windows XP. I installed Fedora from the live-cd with no problem onto a second hard drive, and put GRUB2 on the first drive so it's the boot loader.
When I try to boot Fedora I get a "Cannot open file font True" message and it stops booting. I looked around and found that the error should only delay the booting, and found how to fix it.
I just switched from Fedora 16 to 18 (not an upgrade but a clean install). Previously in Fedora 16, I had no problems doing a Fedora 16 and Windows 7 dual boot in EFI mode. Grub Legacy (EFI version) worked perfectly. Now with Grub2 (EFI) there seems to be no working chainloader command.
I can still boot Windows if I go into the BIOS boot menu and select it.
Going through LFS 7.3 and about ready to make it bootable but Fedora's grub is giving me issue.
The plan was to share /boot between LFS and Fedora 18 as I have done in the past (been awhile since I ran LFS - LFS 4.something last time). Hell, I've shared /boot between Fedora, CentOS, Ubuntu, and LFS.
I recently upgraded my system from Fedora 14 to 16 by http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Upgrad...dora_using_yum . All went quite smoothly except for one very odd problem. As you know this upgrade switches from grub to grub2. I created /boot/grub2/grub2.cfg with grub2-mkconfig and ran grub2-install without encountering any errors but when I restart I am taken to the grub prompt.
I just did a complete reinstall of my laptop installing fedora 17 and windows 7.
I installed Win7 after fedora 17, so i had to boot the live cd, chroot into my fedora install and reinstall grub.
I did a fresh intall of Fedora17 64bit on a dual boot system with vista. The installation was fine. Grub boot menu takes unusally long time to showup. Re installed Fedora 16 64 bit, the grub bootmenu showed up fast.
Probalby grub2 is the culprit after the installation of Fedora17. So tried upgrade from Fedora 16 to 17 without boot configuration update option during the installation.
Hey all,
I have just attempted to change my main desktop (Windows 7) into a dual-boot with Fedora 17 and have run into a couple of issues.
1. On start up GRUB2 reports that it is starting then displays an error message for a split second (too fast to read) and the screen goes blank. If I wait patiently a few minutes later a low-res version of the GDM login screen appears.
2.
Two days ago, I installed Fedora 17 GNOME. When I start up my Asus 1015PX nextbook, a message quickly flashes:"GRUB loading. Welcome to GRUB.Error" I cannot read the error due to the flashing being so quick." Then GRUB Boot Menu appears with Fedora's name below. Then a screen quickly flashes with yellow writing.
Okay.
I have a brand new Asus laptop. Asus n56vm. It has 1TB of harddisk. My disk was GPT when I bought it. I converted to MBR with windows convert mbr via DISKPART. Then installed Fedora 17 with xfce from DVD.
