http://www.thevarguy.com – The European Union (EU) has fined Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) an eye-opening $731 million for breaking a commitment the software giant made more than three years ago to provide users with a choice in web browsers instead of defaulting to Internet Explorer. According to the EU, it is the first time it has ever levied a fine for a company circumventing a legally binding pledge. Microsoft’s penalty results from a 2009 antitrust settlement with the EU in which it agreed to provide European browser users with a choice for Internet access.
