Hi all,
Just now I ran yum update. There was an error message to the effect that the latest nvidia kmod (kmod-nvidia-3.6.1-1.fc17) didn't match the latest kernel, which is still in the 3.5 range.
So I reran yum excluding kernel and kmod-nvidia.
Actually I have nouveau string in make.conf.
"Nvidia-smi has failed because it couldn't communicate with NVIDIA driver. Make sure that latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running."
This is upsetting, as I finally had my Gazelle Pro running smoothly after the 12.04 upgrade months back.
Anyway, I got the message today that a system upgrade to 12.04.1 was available, I went to run it, and it tells me I can only do a partial upgrade.
I run it and on reboot I get command line. I tried to restart lightdm and it fails. Switch over to gdm and that fails too.

Hi all,I have changed my video card to Nvidia Quadro FX 570M from Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M and I cannot start gdm since then. I have tried to reinstall the nvidia package and even Xorg, didn't help.
When I install the recommended drivers, even the latest from their ppa, on reboot, xwindows won't start, it just boots to a console login.
If I purge nvidia and reboot, it works with the builtin ubuntu drivers, even 3D, but system reports the experience as 'standard' using driver Gallium 0.4 on NV92 .
I would like to get nvidia drivers working to see if it performs better.
Unity doesn't load after I installed the latest Nvidia drivers for my gpu "Nvidia Geforce 310m" Ok so I have followed alot of suggestions as for this problem including; Reinstalling Unity, Compiz, the driver, try it out with other drivers (ex; nvidia-current-updates & nvidia-current), and I have also reinstalled the os two times to half of my harddrive (im dual-booting with windows 7 and both
Hi all,
after the kernel update i cannot install latest Nvidia driver.
So I've been trying to get nvidia driver 295.59 running on my machine.
In terminal, I now get:
Quote:
Currently installed version: 295.59; latest available version: 310.32;
latest driver file:
ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Li...inux-x86_64-31
0.32.run.
295.59 supports my card, okay, so I first had a lot of problems with X
