So back in late 2007 or early 2008, I bought a 42" Sharp Aquos LCD. For the past 7 or so years, the 1080 and 120mhz picture has been more than enough for me, and is still enough. However, she is starting to act up a bit. Every couple days I will get some flashing dots on the screen. I fear she is starting to reach the end. So I think I will be looking at TV's over the next month or so.
I have a Macbook pro late 2008, with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 64 bit and 2 GB RAM.
It was very fast with the OS 10.5 but now with the OS 10.8.2 it's simply crawling !
I don't want to spend money in hardware upgrades, so I am thinking of installing Ubuntu.
I'd like your help re the following issues:
I have an external fat32 hard drive. It already has some files on it. Now, I mounted it and it shows the owner to be root. fine. but when I change the permissions, it does not seem to change it. I am not able able to access the directories, even as root !.

Sabet was one of the early backers of Twitter (which just filed its S-1 with the SEC for a public offering yesterday) in 2008 and served on the company’s board from 2008 to 2011.
