Make `rm` move to trash

http://unix.stackexchange.com – Is there a Linux script / application which, instead of deleting files, moves them to a special “trash” location? I’d like this as a replacement for rm (maybe even aliasing the latter; there are pros and cons for that). By “trash” I mean a special folder. A single mv $* ~/.trash is a first step, but ideally this should also handle trashing several files of the same name without overwriting older trashed files, and allow to restore files to their original location with a simple command (a kind of “undo”). Furthermore, it’d be nice if the trash was automatically emptied on reboo (HowTos)

Where do i find the trash folder location in my file system?

I am login as a non-root user; have searched in my home directory with "-a" switch with ls command but couldn't find anything related to trash; though could see some hidden files/directories.

On the other hand on the GUI, there is a folder called Trash which has all the files deleted.

I have just accidently deleted /usr/lib as root, how do I restore it from the trash can from command line? Seeing as how no programs will now run. I can't seem to find /root/.Trash, no such folder seems to exist ,or did I just royally screw myself?

I am having the same problem as described here since two weeks. I even did not notice it at first.I know the workaround, deleting it also with shift + del. But why is that now? I cannot even delete files on all Windows file systems as root.

Today I wondered how to empty the trash bin from CLI (just for fun :D), I googled it and foundrm-rf /home/USER/.local/share/Trash/files/* rm-rf /home/USER/.local/share/Trash/info/*fine, that works.I have also found something more, a little program called trash-cli. ;)It does more that just emptying the trash, it provides a "mild version of rm command".

I am running fedora 17 KDE and for some reason when i try to move a item to trash a menu will pop up and say that the trash bin is full... But I've emptied it...You think it corrupted and i need to del folder and reinstall it?

Do you want to skip it?"When I say yes it delets them anyway.I cheked the folder at my home/.local...

Previously my trash can will be in the desk top. Later I installed Tamil keyboard, and the keyboard switch Icon taken the place of my Trash can. Since that that day, I could not locate the can. I want to restore some files which I deleted earlier. I am using ubuntu 10.04.

When I delete files it says they are being moved to the trash can, but I can't seem to find the can trash can to clear it.

I just installed Lubuntu 11.10 last night, and I thought I remembered seeing the trash can when I opened the file manager.

I found these instructions to create a desktop icon while searching the forum, but there are no trash can icons to choose from.
