Is there any way I can use a different lock screen program or mechanism in Kubuntu?
After upgrading from 12.04 and Gnome 3.4 to 12.10 and Gnome 3.6, I have lost the ability to "Lock" my screen. Using either keyboard shortcuts (Super + L, Alt+Ctrl+L) or the menu option (user menu in top right of screen, "Lock"), nothing happens.
Can anyone suggest a solution or a log file in which to begin researching a solution?
Hi, I have tried a number of different ways to get the screen to lock after a gnome login.
Now, I do run Automaticlogin=user, automaticloginenabled=true; I have heard that when running this configuration some scripts in /etc/gdm/....
I am using gnome-shell on Ubuntu 12.04. On the guest account, I have this handy option switch user, but when I am logged into my own account it is not there for some reason.
Why isn't it there anymore, and how can I get it back? At the moment I can use the workaround to lock screen and I get a switch user button from there, but it would be nicer to have the menu option as I was used to.
I used ubuntu tweak to change the login background, but I need these other things as well:
Show username (not only Full Name) and avatar if possible, in the login screen
Do not show user's background in the locked screen. Also, show 'leave a message' option if possible.
Could anyone using KDE 4.9 (or 4.8) confirm this - when i switch user i expect my session to be locked when i get back to my own session, but it's not. Both users have lock screen activated (in screen saver menu), and still i can go to both sessions by Ctrl-Alt-F1/F2 without ever have to enter password.
Would like to have this future though...did i miss some settings?
This is certainly not game-changing or life-altering, but a question about Ubuntu has been nagging at me.
Why is it that when a user locks the screen (or the screen is locked due to inactivity), the machine doesn't simply go straight to the login screen. The little dialogue that is shown has nothing to offer that the login screen doesn't have.
I was just goofing around in a vm to test what would happen if I purgen unity:
sudo apt-get remove --purge unity*
I found that I get an startup error, but when I proceed, I got this awesome login screen:
It has an sexy effect and is just the gnome style my whole pc has got.
So can any one please tell me how I change the default login screen program without having to bother clicking "fix this
I've searched the forums and the googles for guidance on this but haven't found anything yet.
I hide usernames on the login screen and I would like to do the same on the lock screen. I would be happy with hiding my name or username (full name appears by default) or being taken directly to the login screen from lock. Any ideas?
Many thanks in advance!
