Well
I'm lovin slackware 13
but I have one issue:
Theres no System wide menu app?
In Debian you got the Debian Menu System
which, using dpkg, and some other stuff like the app "menu"
and "update-menus" see here
I'm a little curious, in order to make LXDE look nicer and maybe give it faster response times, is there a way to replace LXpanel with Tint2, and still keep the start button and start menu and everything, or would I be better off looking for another panel?
As for transparent windows, I'm pretty sure those are possible in LXDE as well.
Intro:Many people like to use "Start" menus for many reasons (New to Linux from windows, convenience, and NOT wearing out the right clicker on a laptop). I needed a menu button in my panel for the last reason stated above, but I fif not want to have to install XFCE4 panel, or lxpanel. I wanted something I could use with tint2, such as the existing OpenBox menu. So
Tuna,for_window [class="fbpanel"] floating enableor you can also use lxpanel (only the "Menu" item added to the 'panel') with a keybind:the keybinding should openlxpanelctl menuand supposedlyfor_window [class="lxpanel"] floating enable
Try lxpanel or fbpanel. They give you an automatically updating menu on the panel (but this will not update the openbox menu).
For those people who like an auto generating menu within your openbox menu, this is a nice alternative to the Debian menu. Obam is an openbox pipe menu that creates an application menu from the .desktop files.
I don't have Places menu. Have found a dynamic Places menu implementation, but couldn't work that out as well. Either I make a mistake when pasting the necessary Menu.xml entry or it's a bug.In /etc/skel I see two .sh files, places and recently used, but when I enter one of them to Menu.xml, Openbox produces a warning of "permission denied".
So I'm currently running Fedora 17 with LXDE + Openbox, and have recently installed a new icon theme which seems to be working properly. The only issue is, the particular icon pack didn't include an icon for the "Minimize All Windows" (Iconify) item on my lxpanel, meaning (I assume) it simply used a "default" icon for said item.
I was able to set Winkey to open the menu. But I expect that pressing it again would close the menu which is not happening.
This issue is almost the same as this:
GNOME: Use WinKey (Super_L) as a main menu toggle
except this is for LXDE and not GNOME.
