LXer: Shell scripting for system administrators: advanced techniques

I am a beginner user of Linux and have worked primarily with GUI. I am trying to move to intermediate level by learning the shell commands.

In online Linux forums it's often the consensus that to be an advanced Linux user one should know scripting.

Hi,

I am very new to shell scripting and I need to create a shell script that would keep track of inventory from a csv file. So if someone orders something online the program will subtract that item that way they can't sell more than they actually have. I have no idea where to begin like I said I am extremely new to shell scripting. Any help is very much appreciated.. Thank you.

Hallo everyone :),

I have a rather conceptual question: I want to know which possibillity purposes people use shell scripting in the database area, specially in term of SQL?

For instance, I have these basic database operations such as INSERT, SELECT, DROP, etc. I just want to know in which way we can use shell scripting to support database operations?

I'm very new to Ubuntu. I hear people say "shell scripting", "bash scripting".

I wonder are they same? Or they are different?
