Are you using systemd? What command(s) are you using to shutdown and reboot? Did you edit the sudoers file when you installed sudo, or when you added your user? Did you read this section of the "sudo" topic in the wiki?

Are you in X, or in a console when you run this? "cannot open display" typically means you are trying to run a command in a console when that command only works in X.

If lxde-logout is hard-coded to use consolekit then it has to either be fixed upstream or patched in someway. With the current systemd + polkit, you can simply use these commands:https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … management
