I read that the new release of Lubuntu 12.10 is going to include support for external thumbnailers with the file manager. I downloaded the beta and I'm testing it out, and the file manager automatically creates thumbnails for pictures, but I can't get it to show thumbnails for videos, no matter how small the video file.
Is there something extra that needs to be installed?
I have Thunar installed on my i3 desktop. I also have tumbler and ffmpegthumbnailer. Currently i can't get video thumbnails for .avi and .mkv files. Strangely thumbnails are generated for .mp4 files.
PCmanFM is not accessible.
My lubuntu desktop has become unusable: the normal desktop, handled (i think) by pcmanfm was replaced by an empty one, while pcmanfm became unstable: first used 100% of cpu, then would not be accessible at all, despite the fact that it is runing.
I have installed LXDE beside lubuntu-desktop and for a while in lxde all looked normal, but after several logins/logouts the

Sigh. Stater r20111125 32-bit. So I've installed thunar-thumbnailers. And ffmpegthumbnailer. Thunar is not showing thumbnails for video files (flv, mp4, mov, 3g). I restarted the machine. Still no thumbnails. This applies to files on an external USB HDD. I copied one of the files to /tmp to check, but no thumbnail is shown even for a video file in /tmp.

I seem to have some problems with pcmanfm (openbox took over my desktop) and I would like to reinstall in Synaptic but it says it wants to remove (reinstall eventually) lubuntu-core, lubuntu-default settings and lubuntu-desktop. Is that safe?
After installing lxde and lxde-core, uninstalling pcmanfm involves removing them too.
I can't seem to create templates in Lubuntu. I have a folder in ~ called Templates, which I directly copied from my previous home folder when I installed Lubuntu 12.10, but when I right click in the file manager, in the create new menu, none of my templates are there!
Lubuntu doesn't use nautilus but PCMan File Manager. According to this website, PCManFM has template functionality.
Gwenview is not showing video thumbnails since I've upgraded (via fresh install) to F17. I found an old bug report about it, but it's supposed to be fixed in the current version that ships with F17. Is anyone else seeing (or is that not seeing ..lol..) this problem?
