Finally rebooted into low graphics mode did "sudo apt-get installer fglrx" on a Dell Latitude D600. . fixed by by "sudo apt-get installer fglrx" in cmd line. Removed ati binary X.org driver. Originally started this because Graphical Glitches in Cinnamon especially in the menu & transparent menu background. have found no solution. i believe it is (Hardware)

I want to use the open source Radeon driver for Ubuntu, but currently I'm using fglrx.

So, I went ahead and purged fglrx using sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx* and when I rebooted and ran sudo lshw -c video, I still see driver=fglrx_pci. I've followed the instructions here.

I'm not sure why I can't completely purge fglrx, is anyone else experiencing this?

I have 12.04 and have just installed Cinnamon. Everything seemed to install fine (no error messages), but when I select to boot into Cinnamon at the login screen, it logs me into Gnome Shell. Cinnamon has installed, because I can see and run "Cinnamon Settings" - but I can't log in. Thanks.

I'd like to know the version of fglrx installed in my Ubuntu 10.04.3 box.

ive tried a search and Im sure ive missed the answer to this but having problems boooting in X with the fglrx installed and here is a the famous DRI issue:-

(EE) fglrx(0): atiddxDriScreenInit failed, GPS not been initialized. (WW) fglrx(0): *********************************************** (WW) fglrx(0): * DRI initialization failed! *

Install Cinnamon 1.6 from PPA: Before Cinnamon 1.6 going to stable, you can install it from the nightly build ppa.

I am following these instructions to install the fglrx drivers. When I am running sudo sh amd-driver-12-6-x86_64.run it tells me fglrx is already installed; even though I ran the commands to remove it. So I added the --force option anyway and went through the installer; here is the output:

Hello, When installing my FGLRX-updates driver, I get the following errors and I have no idea what they mean.

Cinnamon is a LinuxMint project, a fork of Gnome Shell. Cinnamon comes with a Gnome2-like panel at bottom, with classic menu, favourite apps, and system tray icons on it. Cinnamon also has Gnome Shell Activity icon on top-left with “Windows & Themes”.

Cinnamon just released 1.1.3 version few hours ago with improvements of menu, panel launcher, etc.
