[lubuntu] Streaming Chinese Media

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi I'm a new linux user and I installed lubuntu 12.04 on my old PC to function as a HTPC. I want to watch streaming media from Chinese sites such as tv.sohu.com or letv.com, but both of those sites don't work. I downloaded the lubuntu-restricted-extras which gives me flashplayer and I disabled the flash plugin that comes with chromium. Youtube plays fine, but these 2 websites don't work. (Hardware)

I'm running lubuntu (12.04) with Fluxbox window manager. Sound was working fine and and could view and hear all streaming content on Youtube and the news media sites. Decided to install VLC and its associated codecs so followed steps 10,12 and 13 on this page :

After re-booting I found that there was no sound.

Anyway, I am running the latest version of Lubuntu 64-bit, and I cannot watch HD streaming videos from Veetle. Sure, SD works just fine, but I want to watch in HD.

What do I have to do to make this possible? Remember, im a noob.

After updating from Lubuntu 12.04 to Lubuntu 12.10 the place where CD-ROM is automounted changed, breaking some applications (!).

In Lubuntu 12.04 CD-ROM would get mounted as '/media/cdrom'. In Lubuntu 12.10 CD-ROM would get mounted as '/media/USER/TITLE', (for example '/media/jnareb/Lubuntu 12.10 amd64')

How to configure udev or udisk2 to get back to original 12.04 version?

I'm thinking of getting the Nexus 7 for my mom as a media consumption device. She will not use it for productivity.

She'll be using the following [and next to it, I have posted my solution for each]:

1. Netflix [use Netflix app] 2. Web browsing [use Chrome] 3.

This should work with Sprint users as well as those trying to flash it to another carrier. Sprint tries to route streaming media such as Youtube and Pandora through their own servers. This bypasses that. Please let me know if you have issues.

Previously, I had in this Windows installed on this computer, but then I installed lubuntu. There are two HDDs in this computer, and I installed lubuntu in the other, which I had split into two partitions. The partitions which didn't have lubuntu, were formated as ntfs and had some videos on other stuff and they did work properly in lubuntu.

Recently installed Lubuntu 12.04 with alternate installer on Compaq Evo N400c (850Mhz PIII, 20GB ATA HDD, 512MB RAM).

After installation of restricted extras and medibuntu codecs I realized that it can't play videos. I tried Midori, Firefox, Chrome, Chromium but all the browsers say: "Shockwave plugin cannot opened...." I tried Adobe plugin, no succes.
