So I created all of the partitions on my laptop and had it dual booting nicely. About two days ago, lubuntu wanted to load only on CLI and while I was trying to fix this I broke something and it did not want to let me log in graphically. So while trying to reinstall Lubuntu I accidentally told it to use the whole hard drive.
Basically what I want to do is install a fresh copy of Ubuntu from Ubuntu. It is an older machine so usb boot doesn't work and I don't see why I need to waste a CD to do it.
Hi, I'm trying to install Ubuntu on my laptop already running windows, but I just realized that a hard drive can only have 4 primary partitions (noob errors). I have a 500gb hard drive. The four partitions are the following: 1 Windows partition (450gb) with 300gb unused, a System partition from windows thats about 200mb, a 13gb partition labeled RECOVERY, and a 100mb partition labeled HP_TOOLS.

I'm new to ubuntu so please forgive any stupid mistakes.
I'm trying to install ubuntu 11.10 to a 500 GB external usb hard drive, to dual boot with windows 7 (windows has already 4 primary partitions so that's the reason for the external drive).
Hey there! Ok, here is basically a quick rundown of my situation:
Lets say I have two physical hard drives: drive 1 and drive 2. Drive one has two partitions, each with an OS on it. Lets say I make an image of sda2 (which has windows 7 on it) and save it for later. Not a full disk image, just a partition image.
Ok, so now I have a partition image of sda2 from hard drive #1.

So, this is my first time installing Ubuntu on my hard drive, and I'm running into some problems.
Until a couple of hours ago, I had 4 partitions in my hard drive:
XP,
Vista and
7 installations,
plus a data partition.
I backep up the XP and Vista partitions which weren't of any use lately, and booted a Live-USB with Ubuntu 12.04.
On the "Install 12.04 LTS" partition manager thingy I deleted
