I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 on a HP Compaq nc8430.
I've just increased the memory from 2Gb to the max of 4Gb. In the BIOS the amount of memory showing is 4Gb and memory test passed OK. However, when I check how much memory is installed in the System Details, it is only showing 3.3Gb.
Anyone know why this is? Thanks.
Here I will show you to to minimize this memory and CPU usage on Firefox.
Firefox is my vital software on my daily activity. It has been my default Internet browser for years. But, did you realize that actualy Firefox eats huge amount of memory and CPU resources?
I'm the proud new owner of an HP Proliant Microserver N40L, and planning to upgrade the (obviously paltry 2 GB of) memory to the maximum of 16 GB. (Theoretically 8 GB is the limit, but empirically 16 GB has been shown to work.) Some guides advise that ECC memory is not that important, but I'm not so sure I believe this.
dear all,
kindly i want to check my server memory utilization i used alot of commands but i want to make sure that it is acurate let me explain
i have a server which has 32GB RAM
Total Memory = 33423360 kb
Free Memory = 4172568 kb
Utilized Memory = 29250792 kb
Memory Utilization Percentage = 87.5 %
if Utilized Memory = 29250792 kb how can i make sure which processes eat this amount of memo
I just came to realize that my system is not limiting the amount of processes per user properly thus not preventing a user from dring a fork-bomb and crashing the entire system:
user@thebe:~$ cat /etc/security/limits.conf | grep user
user hard nproc 512
user@thebe:~$ ulimit -u
1024
user@thebe:~$ :(){ :|:& };:
[1] 2559
user@thebe:~$ ht-bash: fork: Cannot allocate memory
-bash: fork
I have the following questions regarding Linux memory:
I know that the active memory is the portion of memory which is most frequently accessed. But can someone explain me how linux considers a memory location to be utilised for active memory or inactive memory.
What all components does active memory comprises of ?
When I create a virtual machine in Hyper-V and set it up to use dynamic memory, the virtual machine will always use the maximum memory within the virtualized OS. Hyper-V will show the assigned memory at 514mb, but when I log into the server and pull up task manager, it will show 90% memory used.
We got a supermicro server, http://www.supermicro.com/products/system/1u/5016/sys-5016i-ur.cfm, according spec, the server supports up to 32G memory when using ECC Register Memory.
From the SQL Server 2008 R2 Books Online:
Server Memory Options
When SQL Server is using memory dynamically, it queries the system periodically to determine the amount of free physical memory.
