I am trying to install lubuntu 12.1 PPC using the alt cd on an ibook g4. I've been having a few problems. First, when lubuntu boots it only boots to a black screen, my cursor is visible and brightness functions work but that's it, no login screen ever comes up. I tried logging in after pressing ctrl+alt+f1 but my login didn't work.
This post is for users struggling to get Ubuntu/Lubuntu/Xubuntu/Kubuntu working with an iMac G3. For more detailed information see here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCFAQ#Troubleshooting .
1. Download an 'alternate' iso or 'mini' iso and install as normal.
2. Make sure you have an ethernet cable connected and boot into single user mode.
I recently install the latest version of Ubuntu and it went perfect. Since that is stuck in login screen and I can't even type anything from keyboard and use my mouse to do something. Then after 5 mins. it does black like its in idea mode and stay as same condition for while. I have to turn it off manually and on to get to my home screen or login screen.
I am new to Linux, never used it before. I can follow instructions but don't know much about it. Tried searching for a solution to this but couldn't find one. I installed Ubuntu 12.04. It was working fine.
I'm not quite sure what's causing it, but whenever I reboot instead of the login screen, I've got a black screen with the mouse cursor. If I hit ctrl alt f2 I can login, delete .Xauthority and change my home folder ownership to my account. If I do these things, next time I shut down all the way and then boot up, it loads properly. I'm running 12.10 from a clean install.
I am unable to get past the login screen. It won't accept passwords, the screen momentarily goes black, and then returns to the login screen.
I recently found out that you can use CTRL-ALT-F1 to switch from the login screen to the command line. My password works in that situation and I was able to enter terminal mode.
I typed in "startx" to see what would happen.
Hi,
I upgraded from F17 to F18 using
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Upgra...-.3E_Fedora_18
and rebooted. There's no login screen available. I'm able to do ctrl+Alt+F2 though. I've never had problems while on F17.
How to solve this issue?
Thanks,
I am new to Linux. I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on an older computer. The problem is after pressing enter on login there is a cursor on a black background. I can move the cursor. I can ctrl+alt+F1 and I get a kind of CLI in the upper right hand corner that provides a way to login, but also prints error messages too. ANy idea how to get the GUI/desktop running? Thank you in advance.

Ok, I installed Xubuntu 11.10 on my Toshiba Satalite C50 dual booted with windows 7. After that I eventually installed the KDE desktop and the Lubuntu Desktop after KDE. When I rebooted the boot screen said lubuntu instead of Xubuntu and the login screen is now the lubuntu login screen instead of the xubuntu one.
Here is my problem, I can't seen to get past the Lubuntu login screen.
