I think I just ruined my family's computer!
I have a new computer and tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 (64bit) but the installation failed.
I just built a new computer to dedicate to linux and Umbutu in particular. This computer consists of all new components that have never see another operating system. I have changed the bios to look to the optical (dvd) drive first. When I start the computer and put in an installation disk I only get to is the "What language" and the "try Umbutu or install Umbutu" screens.
I'm trying to sign in, log on, but I continually get a box saying password. Not recognized. I noticed in first boot up it mentioned password failed, shadow password would be used instead. I don't know what the shadow password is nor how to change it. I've been into user accounts and tried changing it that way but password is still not recognized. My installation.
The following OEM installation images are now available:
Linux Mint 13 MATE OEM 64-bit
Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon OEM 64-bit
Reminder: OEM images are for computer vendors and manufacturers. They allow Linux Mint to be “pre-installed” on a machine which is then used by another person than the one who performed the installation.

(Bear with me, linux-noob here)
Using Ubuntu 12.04 on a fresh install. I had gone into the User Accounts, unlocked, set no password with auto-login. Also went to Passwords, changed pass on the default keyring to be blank and selected Use Un-Safe Storage.
From what an end user might experience, what are the differences between cloning to a new PC/Laptop an already installed, configured and updated system or doing a fresh installation assuming that the installation settings are the same, for example:
The user name is the same
The computer name is the same
The timezone is the same
What will be configure is the same (VLC will be installed, the restr
Installation: Downloaded WUBI from Ubuntu site today; therefore, I presume this is the latest version of WUBI. The first screen requires a user name and password. I enter both and receive an error message "Passwords do not match."
The screen does not have a field to enter a 'verify' password. I've never had Ubuntu installed on this machine.
