Recently i decided to try MATE. I had XFCE installed. So I ran:
Code:
yum install @mate-desktop
I did not like it. Anyway, I though
Code:
yum remove @mate-desktop
would uninstall JUST mate. But I realized mate and xfce share some dependencies. My desktop crashed.
I need help for uninstall MATE from any way and keep XFCE.
I have recently done a clean install of F18 including the MATE desktop which, as a fairly basic user, I find quite easy to use - I DID NOT install the gnome desktop.
Initially I installed the LXDE desktop.
I then installed the MATE and CINNAMON desktops via the following commands :
yum groupinstall "MATE Desktop"
yum groupinstall "Cinnamon Desktop"

The development team behind the MATE desktop environment proudly announces that the stable 1.6 version of the popular project is now available for download and upgrade.

I'm trying to install MATE through this tutorial:
http://ubuntuguide.net/ubuntu-11-10-...inux-mint-mate
But when I try installing mint gnome shell extension throught the Software Center, I get an error saying it depends on gnome-core, but it won't be installed.

Hi, I installed the XFCE spin of F18 and added the MATE package group.
It works great (actually, both XFCE and MATE), but I face two problems:
1. II cannot get it (MATE) to start a terminal with a keyboard shortcut, not with the builtin Terminal item, and not with an added keyboard shortcut for the command (full path or just command name, doesn't matter).
I've stuck when I installed the Mate package , not only I can't update my system more but also I can't open the software center and synaptic packet manager !
Please , please , please help me !
How can I remove the mate with all its details from my ubuntu machine ?
Thanks in advance
In Ubuntu, Linux Mint or any other Linux distro that uses Gnome, if you close the terminal while some script or command is running within it, a window will appear to ask you to confirm the action:
I myself think this feature is redundant. In Linux Mint (MATE) to disable this confirmation window, you can hit Alt + F2 then type "mateconf-editor" to open the Configuration Editor window.
I just installed Mate on top of Ubuntu by the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://packages.mate-desktop.org/repo/ubuntu oneiric main"
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mate-archive-keyring
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mate-core
sudo apt-get install mate-desktop-environment
Which caused no problems, but many things (window theme, Mint menu, ...) are missing
