I have the following bash script on debian with the LSB header:

The script shutdown guest vms when host is shutdown.
I have ubuntu 11.10 64bit, everything worked fine but after i uninstalled the airtime dj app i can't restart or shutdown my pc !! The only way to reach at the screen showing that system is going to shutdown is via terminal but it stucks and never shuts down !
I can't even restart it !
I can suspend my pc fine but can't shutdown or restart it.
Using Remote Desktop (RDP/Terminal Services), I can't select Shutdown/Reboot from the Windows XP start menu, so I generally have to open a terminal and enter shutdown -s -t 0 to initiate an immediate shutdown.
But, for a new system, I have added a non-administrative user to the Remote Desktop Users group, and when I try to issue a shutdown command as that user, the command returns the following e
I have a first generation Starling (star1) that I've just updated to 12.04. (All software is up-to-date; the System 76 drivers have been reinstalled.) The 'restart' command that is offered at shutdown causes the computer to begin its shutdown procedure, but then it just stops: the screen goes black but the power remains on. It does not reboot. Pressing the power button shuts down the computer.
How are you, good afternoon, I do not speak and I do not write in English, and I'm iniciandome in unix / linux on my own, I am using the google translator, my question is this, know what are the shutdown command to change user State:
# shutdown -y -g0 -i0 (completely off my system)
# shutdown -y -i1 (switch to single-user state)
but when I switch to another state like 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 can not
I've just upgraded my system to [testing] and [gnome-unstable] Most everything works fine, except there seems to be no way to logout. No logout entry in user menu or by hitting ctrl alt del. Fast user switch on the lock screen does work, as does rebooting via the user menu.
I use systemd and kdm as login manager; my desktop is XFCE.Immediately after login, if I click the logout button applet in the xfce panel, I can access all the options (shutdown, reboot, etc). But sometimes, after a while during the session, the shutdown and reboot option simply disappear - only logout works.
Pressing the shutdown or restart buttons in XFCE simply logs me out and leaves the system running.
I did some Googling and it was suggested that by default users don't have permission to shutdown. (not sure how this is a XFCE specific problem in that case but moving on...)
I've taken the following advice found on this forum:
I am using ubuntu 11.10 on my desktop (64 bit) for a long time. Few days back there was some issue with power supply and i have to shutdown my desktop using power button in hurry. Now when i am going to shutdown the desktop, the shutdown process starts and ubuntu logo and five dots comes and then it hangs. Can you tell me what went wrong in the situation of mine?
