So, I have been running Ubuntu for about a month now. I chose to encrypt when I installed, so I am prompted for the password I set when I boot.
When I turned on my laptop today and clicked on a program, it suddenly crashed for no apparent reason to me. The screen turned to black and showed commands.
I restarted my laptop and turned it on again and somehow I managed to use a program for a few minutes before an Ubuntu message saying something like 'you have system errors.
Hello All-
I have a laptop that I can't install a hard drive in - a connector is broken of some sort.
All else works well & has a great battery life, so I am using a live usb with persistence with the laptop.
All is good enough except for suspend.
Here's the scenario:
Choose suspend
Laptop suspends
Press a button

Good morning all.
Yesterday, 3.6.2-1 was installed on my laptop (previously on 3.4.11) that is running FC16. The kernel was the PAE version:
Oct 23 07:59:03 retsol610 yum[2861]: Installed: kernel-PAE-devel-3.6.2-1.fc16.i686
On powering up the laptop this morning, GRUB showed the 3.6 kernel ok, but once selected, the screen just went blank (completely black) and the disc light showed no activity.
I failed to find a clean answer to this issue. HP Pavilion Dv6, just installed Ubuntu 12.10 after Windows 7 got too annoying. Ubuntu is currently the only OS on the laptop.
I used to only have 12.04 on here, and everything worked fine.
Hi,
After some googling, and finding very old bugs (7.04 ubuntu, and without fixes).
Issue :
1) Let laptop sit for a while
2) Screen first goes black (backlight works)
3) Screen goes fully dark (laptop is still on)
4) attempting to "wake" the laptop by moving touchpad, or keyboard fails to work.
My apologies if this has been posted before, but I have searched and haven't found any obvious answers.
Hello
I have this problem with a laptop. When i shut it down it goes to a black screen where it writes this
[1969.215549] Power Down
and stops there without powering down.
The battery is removed from the laptop.
Anyone had that problem and if yes did it fixed?
BTW i have the some problem in 9.04 and 9.10
Thank you
I have a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. I've been running earlier versions of Ubuntu (dual-boot with Vista) on this laptop for for over 2 years without issue.
