I have recently switched from windows 7 to ubuntu 12.10. In ubuntu 12.10 I am using putty to connect to a unix machine remotely where several of my files are stored but editing texts files through the command prompt is tedious in my opinion.
I have a problem connecting to a reverse ssh tunnel created using autossh using Putty in windows. Here are the details:
I have two servers, one at work and one at home, both running linux. At work I have autossh which maintains a permanent tunnel between home and work. What I do is connect from my windows laptop to this tunnel in order to do some work on the work server.
I am using Oracle VM Virtual Box (v 4.3.8) on my windows 7 machine. I have configured Ubuntu (v 12.04.2) machine (working perfectly) in VM and able to ssh from windows (putty client). Pf network configuration screen shot. Now I want to connect an external windows application to the port inside VM Ubuntu machine.
I installed Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS as single boot on my Mac Mini using USB after a problem with OSx and no CD drive. It's been a real pain but am able to boot the system, disabled X and have added SSH to connect via putty.
I can connect via putty and login. The SSH session acts normal and does not appear to have any issues.
I have found similar questions in my searches here, but most of the answers are way above me at the moment, so here goes.
I have set up a VM of Ubuntu server, have installed OpenSSH, and am now trying to connect to it using Putty. Within putty, under "Host name", I put "Ubuntu", given this is what I thought it was called when I set up the VM, however I just get the error "Connection Timed Out".
I am trying connect windows 7 machine and another ubuntu 12.04 machine over wifi for file sharing. For that, I have created an ad-hoc network(WEP protocol) in windows machine. After entering the pass-phrase in my ubuntu machine while tryin to connect to the network, it tries searching for the network and finally the connection attempt gets failed with a disconnection.
