I installed KDE on the remote ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and I connect it using Windows 7's Remote Desktop. But I don't know how to copy&paste text between Windows and KDE remote desktop. The autoselcut package seems to work only when connecting using VNC client like TightVNC Viewer, but not to work under Windows's Remote Desktop.
I am attempting to use XRDP to remote desktop from my fully updated Windows 8 laptop to an old desktop PC that I loaded with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. Through some research I found that Ubuntu had given up on supporting remote desktop through XRDP because there are other ways to do it such as teamviewer and the VNC protocol.
Hello--high tech savvy user here but relatively new to linux and ubuntu. I'm using VCXSRV, version 18.104.22.168 (the latest version as of yesterday) to do remote login (remote desktop) from a Windows 7 laptop to a Ubuntu 12.04 workstation using a VPN connection using XDMCP. Connection is functional, the desktop appears, and I can see desktop icons of my ubuntu workstation remotely on my laptop.

I recently purchased a Sony Vaio Pro 13 Ultrabook with Windows 8 and I have an issue when connected to the VPN at work where it freezes every few minutes while using Remote Desktop through Juniper. After about 10 seconds it displays a dialog about the connection being lost and it retries and the connection is restored.
