NetHogs is a small ‘net top’ tool. Instead of breaking the traffic down per protocol or per subnet, like most such tools do, it groups bandwidth by process and does not rely on a special kernel module to be loaded.
How one could monitor and keep logs of daily, weekly and monthly bandwidth usage of Linux servers? This is important for cheap VPS solutions where they have monthly caps in bandwidth.
Preferable some lightweight command-line tool just for this purpose.
Even more preferably nothing which includes PHP or web code.
It's enough to count all inbound / outbound traffic per network interface.
I have installed Ubuntu Linux 11.10.
My bandwidth is being used up.
Using nethogs eth0 shows that /usr/bin/python is sending and receiving all the time.
Using netstat -tup showed that the address 48293.kwaimuk.canonical:https is using up my bandwidth.
How can I stop this?
Monitoring how much bandwidth is used is a fundamental task to check the status of your servers, or just your desktop, so i always test new tools to see if i find something good. This is the third article of this series and in this one I’ll take a look at Bmon, speedometer and Nload these 3 programs join NetHogs, IPTState, pktstats and IPTraf in my list of useful network tools.
I am hoping that someone can point me in the right direction of a Virtualmin plugin or script that will allow me to actively monitor INCOMING bandwidth usage on a per virtual server basis.
The built in System Settings > Bandwidth Monitoring combines the IN/OUT Bandwidth usage but I am unable to see just the IN usage breakdown.
Any ideas?
Can we get the network bandwidth usage statistics (of single computer) within a LAN by using SNMP queries?
Thanks.
Edit:
I mean to say that we can query a router to get informations such as number of interfaces, total bandwidth usages etc.
In order to monitor your internet bandwidth usage, you can use this Monitor Bandwidth Usage software version 7.0. This software will give you detailed information about the download and upload bandwidth of your computer. Monitor Bandwidth Usage Software is useful for anyone who has quota limited internet connection, so you have to keep on track [...]
In a previous article about 2 programs that you can use to collect network statistics: iptstate and pktstat, on the article I’ve received comments on nethogs and iptraf, and so I’ve tested them.
The goal of both applications is to give to the user information of the actual state of the network, so how much bandwidth is used and which process are using it.
Hello All,
Hope you can help me with this....
I have a site hosted on a Enkompass platform....
The awstats and analog interface in wsoi shows almost 4GB of bandwidth usage whereas inside the "bandwidth" area I see a total of 26GB usage.
