http://forums.fedoraforum.org – hey, so I installed fedora 12 and ubuntu 9.10 couple of weeks ago to try them both out and then yesterday i decided to only keep fedora and clean out ubuntu partition. since i was running ubuntu's bootloader i wanted to load back fedora's bootloader. i decided to follow the instruction here: http://docs.fedoraproject.org/instal...mode-boot.html I have a livecd so at the boot menu the only options i got were boot, verify and boot, memory test, and boot from local hdd. so i just went ahead and boot the livecd all the way to see see if i could find anything on google to help me out since i couldn't find this "linux rescue" option. however, within 10 seconds the system freezes. i could move the mouse, and type in the terminal window but couldn't do anything else (start firefox, gnome menus, resize or move window; none of it would work). so restarted into windows 7 to look at that rescue mode link i just provided above. the document said something about "adding rescue to kernel parameter" so i booted livecd again, at boot menu, pressed tab on the "boot" option and added rescue at the end of the boot command (i am noob so i not even sure this is what it meant but i was just messing around so i decided to try that). once again i got the same freezing issue. i was confused by the way livecd was freezing so i booted the fedora partition, once again same freezing issues. then i booted ubuntu partition once again same freezing issues. windows 7 ran fine though. being a noob, i got impatient and i cleared out both of the linux partition last night and loaded windows 7's bootloader again. this morning i booted the livecd again, and same thing it freezes in 10 to 15 seconds. i was just wondering, for my curiosity, if anyone had any idea why this happened and is happening still with livecd. i know i am kind of limiting ability to try stuff since i cleared out the linux partitions but any ideas would help my curiosity. also how does one reload the bootloader with livecd since there is no upfront rescue option? Hello Community, From a 12.10 LiveCD I am attempting to completely replace Windows 8 with 12.10.

I'm trying to boot into a macbookpro (4,1) using the liveCD to install gdisk and solve my multi-boot MBR issues.

I can't "try ubuntu before installing" with the liveCD as it takes me to a black screen on my mac, nomodeset seems to load the drivers but it's welcoming me to Ubuntu 11.10 via command line - it won't boot into a graphical environment and I'm not sure why.

I'm trying to install Fedora 12 on my new Laptop and i'm having troubles with booting from CD. my Laptop is HP probook 4310s. I already installed windows 7 on it on a NTFS partition. Now I want to install Fedora 12 on a second not yet used partition.

My laptop came installed with windows 7 and I set it up to dual boot with Ubuntu and for a long time everything was good. Then I decided I wanted to move to Fedora 16 and for the past month or so I've been triple booting Windows 7, Ubuntu, and Fedora.

Recently I tried to install Lubuntu via a frugal install with Unetbootin. So, instead of using a USB or a CD to boot the LiveCD, I used Unetbootin to enable me to boot the LiveCD via my operating system's (Windows XP) default bootloader.

Linux n00b here.

I'd like to run Ubuntu in the same way I used to use knoppix ... essentially I created a liveCD with all my defaults, then put the iso on my hard drive and booted from it in a way that the liveCD ran 100% in memory.

Ok, I had Windows 7 and Ubuntu installed on my Toshiba Satellite P755D. Ubuntu was my primary partition. That my pc booted to. I never used it, so I wanted that space on it back for windows 7. Well, I f*cked up, and when I deleted the partition, I forgot to make windows the active partition. Now, when I boot my pc it gives me the "Error: no such partition. Grub Rescue" crap.
