Linux Mint 14 was recently released. Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu, and offers the Cinnamon or MATE desktop environments. This review covers the Cinnamon version, I will try to get a separate review up for the MATE version soon.
Linux Mint 13 MATE and Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon are the latest releases of the main line distribution of Linux Mint, the desktop-centric distribution based on Ubuntu Desktop. MATE is a desktop environment forked from GNOME 2, while Cinnamon is a fork of GNOME (3) Shell. Both desktop environments aim to satisfy users who refuse [...]

I’m taking this opportunity to relay two pieces of Cinnamon news to the Linux Mint community.
Cinnamon 1.6 preview
The upcoming Cinnamon 1.6 was given a quick preview at http://cinnamon.linuxmint.com/?p=195
Nemo
Nemo was announced as the new file browser for Cinnamon: http://cinnamon.linuxmint.com/?p=198
MATE 1.4
There was also news coming from MATE.
The team is proud to announce the release of Linux Mint 13 “Maya”.
Available in two editions, Linux Mint 13 features the choice between a productive, stable and mature MATE 1.2 desktop and the brand new modern-looking and exciting Cinnamon 1.4. These two desktops are among the best available, they’re perfectly integrated within Linux Mint and represent great alternatives to Gnome 2 users.
Linux Mint 14, code-named Nadia, hit the download mirrors yesterday. That’s less than 10 days after the first Release Candidate was announced. What type of testing does this thing get?
I have done several installs of LM13 Maya on Cinnamon, but am very interested in reading Ubuntu and Linux Mint users' perspectives on Mate. I have tried Cinnamon on Precise and had too many issues with visual artifacts on the screen and such.
Linux Mint 13 (code named as Maya) has released and if you’re a a GNU/Linux user then it might be worth exciting for you.
