http://www.linuxandlife.com – According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker, factory revenue in the worldwide hosting server market increased 3.1% year over year to $14.6 billion in the fourth quarter of 2012 (4Q12). This was the first quarterly increase of factory revenue in five quarters. Worldwide server shipments decreased 3.9% to 2.1 million units in 4Q12 when compared with the same period in 2011. For the full year 2012, worldwide server revenue decreased 1.9% to $51.3 billion when compared to 2011, while worldwide unit shipments decreased 1.5% year over year to 8.1 millio (Distributions)

Evidence of market saturation in the U.S. can be seen in new research from IDC that takes a look at the global connected device market. Shipments and revenues declined here, even as worldwide market share grew. The connected device market, meaning smartphones, tablets, and PCs combined, grew 27.4% year-over-year in Q2 2012, IDC says. There was also a slight bump of 2.8% growth from Q1 to Q2.

Worldwide business intelligence platform, analytic applications and performance management software revenue hit US$12.2 billion in 2011, a 16.4 percent increase from 2010 revenue of US$10.5 billion, to take the position as the year’s second-fastest growing sector in the overall worldwide enterprise software market.

According to the recent report published by IDC this week,  worldwide server market revenues decreased 4.8 percent year-over-year in Q2 2012. This is the third consecutive quarter of year-over-year revenue declines for the server market.

Gartner says that worldwide server shipments in the third quarter of 2010 grew 14.2 percent year over year, while revenue moved upward 15.3 percent year over year. This is in stark contrast to their PC shipment forecast.

According to IDC’s latest report on smart device shipments, we’re in for a record-breaking holiday season.

The Asia Pacific server market remained healthy throughout the second quarter of 2011, with year-on-year shipment growth of 25.6 percent and revenue up 26.1 percent compared to the same quarter last year. APAC had the strongest increase in server shipments, with the focus firmly on the Chinese market.

Veteran streaming radio platform Pandora released its fourth quarter earnings today, in which it saw its fiscal 2013 revenue of $427.1 million, representing a 56 percent year-over-year increase, and fourth quarter revenue of $125.1 million, an increase of 54 percent year-over-year. In turn, mobile revenue for the fourth quarter grew 111 percent year-over-year to $80.3 million.

The Interactive Advertising Bureau just released its full-year report for 2012, showing that digital ad revenue set a new record of $36.6 billion, up 15 percent from 2011. Mobile was the fastest-growing category, though it still accounts for a relatively small part (9 percent) of overall revenue.

Samsung already gave us a hint of what to expect to see in its latest quarterly financials, but now the Korean consumer electronics titan has released its earnings for all to see.
