I'm running a duel boot/partition machine with Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7. On Ubuntu OS, I wanted to change the permissions in one of my directories so could extract files into that directory. In the terminal I entered chmod -R 777 /usr/share/icons which gives the owner, group, global read, write, and execute permissions.
Very Imporant - Security Exploit for HTC Desire
I suggest you read the entire post and DO NOT IGNORE IT, the HTC Desire is DEFINITELY VULNERABLE
As some of you might know, the Samsung phone remote wipe exploit is not limited to Samsung phones, in fact, older HTC models such as the HTC Desire are vulnerable too!
If you are unaware, read all about it on this link {siliconrepublic.com} - It's NOT l
To enforce the following permissions on files in /var/www, can I use the commands chmod u+s and chmod g+s? Do I just run it on the /var/www directory (once the permissions are properly set)?
Permissions:
chown -R root:web /var/www
chmod -R g+rw /var/www
On exploit-db.com, a local priv esc exploit was released today jan 23rd, 2012. It affects kernel 2.6.39 > according to advisories on secunia and securityfocus. The author has also demonstrated this to work on kernel version 3.2.0.
I Tried this on BT5R1 as a regular non-privileged user and the exploit got me root.
Long story short. My Bionic is on the fritz. Started off by trying to uninstall Bootstrap and install Safestrap and it went to hell from there. End story I've FXZ'd back to 902 a number of times, taken the OTA to 905 and updated to ICS several times. I've factory reset, wiped internal and SD cards, swapped batteries and SD cards all to no avail.
Here is my current state.
I recently heard you guys achieve root on your Atrix HD and wanted to congratulate you. But that's not the only reason I am posting here.

Just setting up eclipse to do some android development. I have a hard-drive mounted with the sdk on it in a folder. I have full access to it but when I boot up eclipse, I get permission denied on ADB (ADB is a platform tool for android).
Ive tried setting the folder permissions with Chmod 755 on the folder "android-sdk" but Eclipse still cant access it.
I'm having problems with Magento when doing a system backup. Every time I do a system backup Magento changes the file permissions and causes a 500 server error when the backup has completed and the admin screen is reloaded.
The problem is the same as this unanswered question. I am not setting 'maintenance mode' on.
Does anyone have any recommendations for apps that help the user manage permissions? I've heard good deal about Permissions Denied but it seems recently the free version was taken down and the price pumped up. I'm not sure of the story behind that so I am a bit weary. I've also seen a bit about LBE Privacy but the fact that it is closed source can be unsettling.
