I have to be honest with you guys, this year’s news and rumors for the upcoming Nexus or Nexi devices seems to be a lot slower than last year. It’s possible things are just starting to heat up because we have some more information from Android and Me. According to sources LG will definitely have a Nexus device, and it will be called the LG Optimus G Nexus.
During its Q3 2012 earnings call, Google’s Larry Page, whose voice still sounded very hoarse and is clearly not back to where it was before a year ago, used the first couple of minutes of the call to highlight some of Google’s hardware initiatives. Not only did he put in a plug for Google’s new Chromebook, but also for the Nexus 7 tablet.
I’m not sure we need anymore evidence of the upcoming Google Nexus tablet, but a photo showed up on Picasa with EXIF data suggesting it came from a Nexus 7. This isn’t the first time we heard the name “Nexus 7,” but we’re still wondering if it’s a codename or the actual name. The picture itself isn’t revealing.
Well this didn’t take long. Just mere days after it was announced, the Nexus Q has already been “modified” to run games. In case you’re not familiar, the Nexus Q is a streaming media player that plays content like music, movies and YouTube videos.
The same guys that have been leaking images of the LG Nexus just posted a full review. Now they don’t have a finished product as they do call it a “prototype”, but they still offer further insight on the device and make a lot of comparisons to the Galaxy Nexus. The LG Nexus comes in at 9.2mm thick (0.30 thicker than the GNex) and weighs 139 grams.
Google will be delivering Android 4.2 updates to owners of its Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy 7 devices over-the-air, and likely very soon, but if you’re just not able to wait, there’s a way to update manually right now using firmware downloads found on Google’s servers.
If you remember, several months ago it was reported that Google would offer several Nexus devices later this year, and we reported that they would announce five such devices on Android’s 5th birthday. Since then the rumormill has been quiet except for this morning’s news on a Galaxy Nexus with some minor spec bumps.
So, I’m sitting at my computer just about to hang it up for the night when my friend messages me on Facebook “I’m rooting my Nexus 7 right now.” “Of course you are.” I replied. He’s really into that sort of thing, and went on to say how he could overclock his Nexus 7 to 1.64 GHz, now I’m intrigued.
Here’s something interesting for your Monday morning. Images of a Nexus X showed up on Picasa. No other information was specified, but in looking at the EXIF data, the pics were taken with a Galaxy Nexus. That in itself tells us nothing and there is no reason to know if these are fake or not. We did hear rumblings about a possible Xperia Nexus in August, but nothing else since.
