Conferences can be dull, soul-sucking enterprises. Too often, the stage is filled with the same speakers saying the same things and providing too little value to the people who’ve paid to attend. Those sessions are sometimes complemented with sponsored messages from universally bad companies touting their latest new thing that probably sucks.
They’re a necessary evil, I know.
With the relative decline of Plancast and Upcoming, the Lanyrd startup has solidly stepped in to the breach, aggregating content around speakers, attendees, venues, books, video and anything to do with conferences. It’s also benefitted from the shutdown of the LinkedIn Events application. Now all it has to do is work out a business model.
