I mostly feel ashamed having to ask this question, but I can't remember the answer or even think of the proper terms to do a Google search. When I launch a program from within a gui file manager (thunar in my case), the program launches and I can then close thunar and the program will continue to run.But if I launch a program from a terminal window, as soon as I shut down the terminal window,
After a recent update it seems that when I boot the machine Grub loads and asks what I OS I want to launch. However, there are no other OS on the machine and it just launched Ubuntu previously. How do I edit the file so it will just launch ubuntu and not wait for timer to run out, or for the user to select?

In Fedora 17, how do I setup the following two things which are related to using the terminal?
1. I'd like to get the right click the desktop, then click terminal to start a terminal. This used to be nautilus-open-terminal, but I installed that and it didn't seem to work.
2. How do I setup a keyboard shortcut for launching a terminal?
In Linux Mint (Debian-based) how can I edit what the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+t launches?
For example, I would like to issue gnome-terminal with the --maximize option, and to have it launch tmux instantly.
The first time I launch a browser (either Iceweasel or Chromium) after boot up it takes several seconds to open, subsequent launches in the same session seem considerably faster. Is there anything I can do to make the first launch faster? Thanks.

I can launch it as a regular user and I can log in as root and launch it but no way can I get it to launch as su.
Cheers,
