I messed up a bit. Hoping some here can help me.
I tried to install the newest catalyst 12.8. Sadly, this broke my system. I was stuck in low graphics mode. I finally managed to restore the proprietary drivers, and get into ubuntu again. But now I am stuck on kernel 3.2.0.26. I had installed kernel 3.2.0-30, but the system no longer sees it.
I recently installed the Cinnamon Desktop environment and after restarting noticed that the Unity and Unity 2D session options had disappeared from LightDM's session selector.
I removed and purged all Cinnamon packages, but that didn't work. So then I reinstalled all unity-related packages to no avail either. I then removed, purged, and then reinstalled unity and unity-2d to no effect.
Im using Fedora 17 KDE, btw best linux distro ive ever used and ive installed over 20 of them.. good job .. anyway............
I just installed 25 updates. In them were the raring graphics stack and kernel 3.5.25. I rebooted back and noticed I was now in Unity 2d. This behaves much slower than 3d did and when I tried to log out to lightdm the screen went blank blue.
I tested out Unity 5, and of course, it broke things, so I tried downgrading by
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:unity-team/staging
It removed Unity completely.
apt-get install unity
seemed to work, but the login screen now offers only Gnome.
How do I get back to Unity 4?
I am running Fedora 15 on a second machine.
I had trouble booting Linux and I found that while grub started off trying to boot vmlinuz-2.6.43, I had to backtrack to vmlinuz-2.6.42 in order to boot.
rpm -qa | grep kernel
shows both kernel packages installed and
rpm -ql ...
shows the newer kernel should be in /boot, but it isn't.
Hey all,
I did a fresh install of 12.04 yesterday. Unfortunately Unity seems to be broken on my system. The dash seems to work ok but i have no HUD, and the program switcher looks like something from XP.
I have an ATI mobility graphics card which i thought might be an issue, but the propriety driver installed and seems to function ok.
also CCSM seems to little or nothing as well.
Hi!
I just updated Fed 16 this morning, and I noticed now that there is no longer a network icon in the top bar. If I go to System settings/Network I get 'the network service is not compatible with this version'
How do I get out of this one?? I can't connect to reinstall Network Manager.
How can I get the internet connections up and running manually? What is wrong with this version.
I have removed the Unity DE using this command:
Code:
sudo apt-get remove unity unity-2d-places unity-2d unity-2d-panel unity-2d-spread unity-asset-pool unity-services unity-lens-files unity-lens-music unity-lens-applications gir1.2-unity-4.0 unity-common indicator-sound indicator-power indicator-appmenu libindicator7 indicator-application evolution-indicator indicator-datetime indicator-mess
