I just convinced two users to switch to Ubuntu for their older laptops but something is not right with the networking. His computer can see hers but she cannot see him and they are on the same wireless home router. They are both on workgroup and I am using Samba to set up the sharing but when clicking the browse network I can only see her laptop from his and not vise versa.

Currently have a laptop with win7 Home Premium (upgrade version from Vista) 64 bit. it's okay, wife knows how to use it. Computer is dying though and need a new laptop. Getting random hardware pops and it shuts off.
Almost ALL of the current offerings are win 8 machines (for the computer I want) with the dreaded secure boot stuff.
I've been doing some research for laptops to replace my wife's very old work-issued laptop. Her company just implemented a reimbursement policy to avoid dealing with laptop inventory/servicing. They'll reimburse her for half of up to $3000, and she gets to keep it.
It says here that these laptops are certified by Ubuntu. It says that these laptops are certified. Particularly I am looking at the laptops with hybrid graphics, but how sure am I that these laptops will run well under Ubuntu? Is the driver pre-installed?
So I'm looking at getting a few new laptops over the next year, three in fact, and I'm looking at natively running Ubuntu in a single-boot configuration on two of them (frustratingly, the wife is still dead-set against making the switch)...
