I'm running Kubuntu 12.04 and I'm trying to set up zeroconf networking. Here's what the wiki says:

Please find below the bare minimum checklists for Linux Hardening Guide.
ZEROCONF:
On by default. Used by avahi for local service discovery. Disable this service. Edit /etc/sysconfig/network. Add NOZEROCONF=yes . Then remove the avahi package and its dependencies
/etc/sysctl.conf settings :
On an android device, I am connecting to a remote network using openvpn for performing service discovery.
WORKING CASE: After the device is camped on 3g/4g and after connecting to remote network by openvpn, when the zeroconf browser is launched, I can see the mdns query packets being send through the tap0 interface resulting into rendering of services on the browser.
we connect some embedded devices in a network. What i am looking for now, is a way to find the devices IP and identify them.
We work with Windows PC´s and i am about to write a C# tool that should do this.
I thought about send a udp broadcast and in the ack i.e.
I installed 11.1 when it first came out. The PC I used gave up the ghost and I bought a refurbie, HP xw4100 and installed the 11.1 drive in it. All works except Internet connection. I am befuddled, bemused, confused and at a complete loss! The router on USB is not detected.
Boot Time - Status blinks, LAN is OFF and remains OFF. DSL blinks several times.
I'm trying to use a proxy with Chromium (25.0.1364.160 on Kubuntu 13.04) but whatever settings I use Chromium ignores. The proxy is configured and working correctly and confirmed to be working by using Firefox.
Here's what I've tried:
Quitting Chromium and setting the system wide proxy using System Settings->Network Settings->Proxy.
Hi, I have a Fedora 12 server running a PPTP VPN. My server has a single NIC (eth0) in the 192.168.0.0./24 network connected to a broadband router (192.168.0.1).
I have some systems connected via a simple stupid ethernet switch. Under usual conditions, the switch is connected to a large network providing DHCP service and Internet gateway. However, if the group gets disconnected from the large network, or the DHCP is down, no adresses are assigned and the subnetwork stays unconfigured. I like to have the subnetwork usable in any case.
In RHEL, we can change network settings either using GUI or editing the configuration files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/.
I would like to know how the network settings (e.g. IP address, gateway, etc) in the configuration files are sync with the GUI and vice versa. Do I need to restart any service to sync the data?
When NetworkManager is running, do I need to turn off network service?
