Is there a way to use the extra keys ie:mute, volume down etc on 10.04 with a logitech wireless keyboard.
Thanks
No not a laptop so no accelerometers.
My laptop's media keys (volume up/down/mute) are detected via xev and showkey. I can go into System Settings > Keyboard > Shortcuts and set the volume controls with the media keys. However when I try to use the keys they do not function properly.
I tried setting the keys and rebooting the system but that hasn't worked. Any ideas?
System Info:
Dell Latitude E6500
Ubuntu 12.04.1

I have a wireless keyboard with touchpad
However the position of the mouse buttons is very unconfortable and so I would like to remap the mouse button to some kes on the keyboard.
When I was using a comfort curve keyboard which had media keys, those keys worked
as media keys in X ( with different users), in single-user mode and in multiuser-mode without X.
Then I switched to an RK-9000, which is a quite excellent keyboard but has no media keys. ;...(
But there are a few keys I never use. Scroll lock comes to mind as well as pause.
I am unable to use the multimedia keys at the top of the keyboard in (K)Ubuntu. I haven't been able to use keyboard layouts to solve this issue, either.
Anyone have any suggestions for me? I have tried xev but xev doesn't even detect them being pressed. I have also tried keytouch and that doesn't seem to help me any.
Help? :-\
I recently purchased a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 6000 to make working with my Ubuntu 9.10 machine easier. The keyboard fired right up and works well with the Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 7000 layout except for some of the buttons that X does not recognize. The layout of the 7000 is nearly identical except the 6000 has buttons for zoom, 5 customer buttons, and Areo Flip.
Hi Everyone,
This is a minor issue, but one of those things that's been bugging me. Everything on my laptop works right after the install, including the camera and fingerprint reader (with fprint-demo) with the exception of the Thinkvantage and media player special keys. On my computer, these keys and dedicated mute and volume buttons are separate and above the actual keyboard.
