I did a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 (64bit), then updated to 12.10 (64bit) over the web. I then added the kubuntu backports so that I could install KDE (kubuntu-desktop). Did an update of the repository. Then tried to install kubuntu-desktop. It is complaining that xorg won't be updated, and thus I can't install kubuntu-desktop.
Hello,
Apologies if this is in the wrong section. Regarding the Kubuntu updates ppa (ppa:kubuntu-ppa/ppa) and the backports ppa (ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports), what exactly are the differences between the two?
If I am going to enable the backports repo, is it also necessary to install the updates repo?

I have messed up my installation, while trying to update to KDE 4.10. I added the backports PPA (ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports) and apparently did the upgrade. However, it looks like it was just partial. I see some packages at 4.10, and some others at 4.9.4. If I go to any KDE app and click on Help - About KDE, it displays 4.9.4.
For example, kdelibs-bin is at 4.9.4.
