[kubuntu] Laptop screen being cropped.

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi, I'm having a bit of a unique problem with my laptop, after switching it off and returning to uni the next day I turned my computer on to find that the screen was on the fritz. Basically it is showing that my native resolution is 1024x768 when it is infact 1280x800 (my laptop is an acer aspire 5024 if that matters). So the view that I have starting from the upper left hand corner is a perfectly fine 1024x768 picture but ones the picture reaches the 1024th (or 768th) pixel the remaining pixels are just showing a repeated picture of the few pixels just on the right edge of the de (Hardware)

Software is Fedora 17 with updates. Hardware is laptop Dell mini 10 with GMA500 Poulsbo Painful chipset.

X-screen is 4 pixels shifted up. At the buttom I can see cursor or parts of letters in underling TTY console. See picture:

Bright - is X-Server's screen. Black - 4 pixel ribbon between monitor edge and X-screen.

There are no problems to make them work together, however, only one resolution can be set.My laptop has a resolution of 1280X800, when I set the resolution to fit laptop screen, the image shrinked on the projector, if I set it as 1024X768, projector can work ok (though still a little bit deformed), but the laptop screen image became 1024X768, either.I googled a lot, it seems no way to set resoluti

Well. I forgot the password to my laptop. So I asked a friend from work if there was anything that could be done about it. So, of course. I let him "fix" it for me. Now when I try to login. It accepts the password. Then goes to a black screen. It shows some text in the upper left hand corner for a very very brief moment. Then goes directly back to the login screen.

I am trying to clone 2 displays. I have a laptop with 1440x900 resolution and an external monitor with 1024x768 resolution.

I just installed ubuntu on my laptop. The screen resolution is stuck in 1024x768. The screen is made for 1280x800.

i have hooked up an older 19 inch Belinea 106055 onto my laptop... like this screen, it is big and has good color... but... :)

The screen can handle a resolution up to 1600. I would like to use 1280 resolution. The problem is that the letters look not sharp in higher resolution. i hope you know what i mean. i have tried different moire settings without success.

After upgrading from 11.2 to 11.3 I sometimes find the screen displaying what sysvinit is doing, displayed in a 640x480 box in the upper left corner of the screen.

menu.lst has the following option set "vga=0x318", which I think should be ok for this laptop capable of displaying 1280x800.

Once X is started the resolution is usually ok

I installed ubuntu 12.04 on my old laptop with SiS671 video card and its working fine with 1280x800 screen resolution.

I have the same issue on two laptop computers with Intel Graphic Chip sets.

1st Laptop - Intel GMA 4500

Laptop display resolution is fine however external monitor will not go higher than 1024x768. On windows this computer manages 1366x768 with the same monitor.

2nd Laptop - Intel GMA 950

Laptop display resolution is fine however external monitor will not go higher than 1024x768.
