I typed this in the console using both user and root permissions:
glxinfo | grep -i direct
and it says for both:
*** WARNING: Direct Rendering is NOT enabled
I have successfully installed the 10.2 proprietary driver from ATI. But how do i enable Direct Rendering?
Thanks in advance
Before OpenSuse 11.2 I used some Debian-based distros that used to have a good support for my integrated video card Via Unichrome P4M800 Pro / CN700.
I had 3D running with direct rendering by Mesa.
With OpenSuse I'm having problems to configure my graphics with a good configuration...
I want to enable desktop effects (normal or extra) but I get the message:
Desktop effects could not be enabled.
I have a ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics card. I've seen in other posts that this has to do with the driver 'fglrx'. But when I do:
dmesg|grep 'fglrx'
I have a quite old laptop with a S3 Twister K which correspond to a ProSavage KN133 so the savage driver gets used.
This chip is far from a powerhouse, but it can move enough textured polygons to run even UT2003 with decent speed (back then when the first demo got released on windows).
My Sapphire Radeon HD5450 graphics card works great with 2D graphics, but I can't seem to get hardware 3D acceleration working properly on an up-to-date Debian Squeeze running on the amd64 architecture.
glxinfo reports:
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.2
...
client glx vendor string: Mesa Project and SGI
client glx version string: 1.4

Here a new fresh openSUSE 11.3 installed where everything works like a charm :)
The only worry I have now is about the default free radeon drivers (r600) where they seems to be working well but clearly it's not same as my past openSUSE 11.2 with fglrx.
Hi, i'm unable to get Compiz working.
I've already uninstalled nouveau, put "rdblacklist=nouveau", and blacklisted it. I've also installed nVidia, and configured it to work with my dual head setup. everything works great, except when i try to enable Compiz:
Code:
1.
$ compiz --replace
2.
ah, thank you for answering!it was tearing, the word i didn't remember.uname -r
3.2.0-4-amd64glxinfo | grep "direct rendering"
direct rendering: Yesanyhow i was playing around and noticed that the tearing is (almost 100%) gone when i disable compton.but, following your links, ->running a dist-upgrade now. finished.yeah, that fixed it.wow. and thanks. again.
Desktop Effects could not be enabled. Also, I'm not having any luck installing Catalyst drivers. After installing Catalyst driver for the right kernel version, Xorg goes corrupt when starting up.
Kernel: 2.6.30.8-64.fc11.i686.PAE
Video card: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3450
$ glxinfo | grep render
