Apologies if this is in the wrong section. Regarding the Kubuntu updates ppa (ppa:kubuntu-ppa/ppa) and the backports ppa (ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports), what exactly are the differences between the two?
If I am going to enable the backports repo, is it also necessary to install the updates repo?
I am mostly using Debian Testing and had never tried using Stable + Backports.
Was reading about Backports and wondering how to know if, the packages we wanted to install is in Backports or not.

I did a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 (64bit), then updated to 12.10 (64bit) over the web. I then added the kubuntu backports so that I could install KDE (kubuntu-desktop). Did an update of the repository. Then tried to install kubuntu-desktop. It is complaining that xorg won't be updated, and thus I can't install kubuntu-desktop.
The latest set of KDE releases has been announced on Jan 25. It includes major updates to Plasma Workspaces, Applications, and the Development Platform. Version 4.8 provides many new features, as well as improved stability and performance. Read the announcement.
KUbuntu 11.10 user can easily upgrade to KDE 4.8 via ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports.
In Debian Squeeze I have installed a packageX from debian-backports.
Q1: When I apt-get dist-upgrade or aptitude full-upgrade, what release is checked for updates for packageX? debian-backports or debian-stable?
Q2: Can I use a command to update a single package from a specific release? For example is aptitude -t full-upgrade packageX a valid command?
There is only one version of the libreoffice package in Debian Squeeze Backports:
