On Saturday I ran online update, which included a kernel update (now 2.6.31.8-0.1.1 x86_64). Afterwards, I set out to recompile the VMWare module, as is always required, but it complained about not finding the kernel headers for the "desktop" kernel.
Using Remote Desktop (RDP/Terminal Services), I can't select Shutdown/Reboot from the Windows XP start menu, so I generally have to open a terminal and enter shutdown -s -t 0 to initiate an immediate shutdown.
But, for a new system, I have added a non-administrative user to the Remote Desktop Users group, and when I try to issue a shutdown command as that user, the command returns the following e
I am using ubuntu 11.10 on my desktop (64 bit) for a long time. Few days back there was some issue with power supply and i have to shutdown my desktop using power button in hurry. Now when i am going to shutdown the desktop, the shutdown process starts and ubuntu logo and five dots comes and then it hangs. Can you tell me what went wrong in the situation of mine?
My Dell Latitude E5520 will not shutdown correctly. Using the GNOME panel default shutdown method everything goes well and my session ends, however shutdown will not pass the last two shutdown icon indicators on the purple shutdown screen. This is a default 12.04 clean install.
With 11.2 and Gnome occasionally it will not shutdown properly. I press the shutdown button and then Gnome starts the shutdown sequence. It terminates the desktop and falls back to GDM, which in it self is normal. However it then just stops, I can't click anything and the system is not responding either. When I press the physical button on my PC I get the menu of shutdown again.
Sorry, my bad, I thought kshutdown was the name of the kde default shutdown app. I didn't realize it was something else.... I was talking about the default shutdown option of KDE no longer working.... again, sorry, for that....
Greetings,
I'm not sure this is the most appropriate subcommunity for this posting, but here goes. Is there a Ubuntu One forum?
Running 12.04 in the Ubuntu One desktop. When I try to shutdown using that option in the "gear" icon in the upper right corner, a small window appears claiming that I have an unknown process running.
Pressing the shutdown or restart buttons in XFCE simply logs me out and leaves the system running.
I did some Googling and it was suggested that by default users don't have permission to shutdown. (not sure how this is a XFCE specific problem in that case but moving on...)
I've taken the following advice found on this forum:
I did it adding the following line, but doesn't work (at least in my case):
username ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:/sbin/shutdown -h now
then making a launcher in the desktop with the following instruction:
sudo shutdown -h now
When I tried it, keeps asking me the password. What am I doing wrong?
PS:
I'm using visudo
