I have written an article about how to customize the Ubuntu login screen. After you edit the login screen, you may want to share your work on blogs and forums. However, you simply cannot just press the print-screen button to take screenshot of the login screen in Ubuntu. To do so, you can use a workaround command to preview the login screen and take screenshot of it.
For security,you may want to disable the user list at login screen so that no one can know how many users on this computer.Following command will disable the user list and make it like earlier Ubuntu version,need to type user-name and password to login.
First,open a terminal window from Applications->Accessories menu.
Then,execute following command:
I've wanted to say this for a while: I don't like the updated login screen with the text box off-center. (SLIM)I remember it was the sparse login screen with the one basic tone and the text box in the middle that made me fall in love with #!. I was a bit sad to see it tinkered with. It was so clean and no-nonsense.
I am on Fedora 16 KDE spin. Yesterday I ran the fsck command and that broke things. I can login via the tty, so I guess it has nothing to do with the shadow file. The login screen reappears after login no matter how many times I try to get past it. The permissions are the same as before. Also I have tried renaming the .kde folder. Doesn't help. This affects all the users, even root.
I am unable to get past the login screen. It won't accept passwords, the screen momentarily goes black, and then returns to the login screen.
I recently found out that you can use CTRL-ALT-F1 to switch from the login screen to the command line. My password works in that situation and I was able to enter terminal mode.
I typed in "startx" to see what would happen.
I have the same issue as others (see Login returns to login screen [closed]).
When I arrived at the login screen, I enter my password, the screen goes black for one second, displaying some text, and then it returns me to a fresh login screen.
I can go to a console alt+f1 and login into my account on the command line.
It is a fairly fresh install of ubuntu 12.04 64 bit, plenty of room left on th
It happens like 50% of my Suse 11.2 startups, when I type in my password at login screen and hit enter, Gnome do not start, i can only see the green blank screen,or sometimes it start to show only my custom wallpaper and nothing more, when i try ctrl+alt+backspacex2 and login again everything seems to work fine, but what could be wrong ? is it a hardware issue ?
On my login screen, I don't see the option for changing the language which will be displayed when I login. After some searching, I found that I need to use gdm as my graphical login manager, and followed the steps outlined here yet I find that I am unable to select the language at login.
Hi
I've just installed 12.04, which is nice but a little too automated for my liking.
I would like to be able to boot to a tty login screen, as I used to be able to do in 8.04. After logging in, I'd like to be able to login and then manually open my windows manager, as I did with 8.04.
