KDE have released version 4.8 of their free and open source software bundle. It provides many new features, improved stability and increased performance. Highlights for Plasma Workspaces include window manager optimizations, and the redesign of power management.

These releases got special attention to the general levels of quality and stability. In particular, there was a focus on eliminating any regressions from previous releases.
Over the last few months the KWin development team worked on bringing the Window Manager for KDE's Plasma workspaces to mobile devices. This has required porting the compositing code to OpenGL ES 2.0, the open graphics API for programmable embedded graphics hardware.
