I had the time for some more digging, here my findings.
I've tried to find a solution to this but haven't been able to yet.
I'm using ubuntu 12.04 installing using wubi installer.
I have no audio. I can see the sound icon on the bar on top and interact with it.
It doesn't say mute, it seems normal.
Hi,
My sound was working fine. Now I've lost it and the Pulse audio gui claims it has a Dummy Ouput. If I understand correctly, the below indicates my sound card has not been detected.
nnjond@nnjond-den:~$ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xfdf78000 irq 22
1 [Socialize ]: USB-Audio - VF0640 Live!
I'm using the out-of-the-box sound setup (ALSA, nothing else).
Hi. I switched from Kubuntu to SUSE to check if this is a (K)ubuntu only problem. Seems not to be because sound doesn't work with SUSE either. Everybody seems have this same problem with this motherboard + Linux (expect that this mobo seemed to work with some older distributions). I Googled and found out that passing the buggy_semaphore 1 option to the driver module should work. It didn't.
I'm running OpenSuSE 11.2, 64-bit version, and after some system upheavals I now have no sound. Other indications of what is wrong (redacted to remove redundancies):
Code:
suillus2:~ # speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav
speaker-test 1.0.18
Playback device is plug:front
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
WAV file(s)
Problem:
My USB headphones work sometimes, and sometimes they don't. Parsed /proc/asound/cards for the right settings to /etc/asound.conf and rebooted. Worked. Next time I booted. It didn't work again, but nothing had changed in asound.conf.
Querying /proc/asound/cards over the span of several boots, I discovered that my soundcards are playing something akin to musical chairs.
Hi !First of all, I'm new to this forum so, if I made a mistake about posting in the wrong section, I'm sorry.I've a strange problem on my netbook with alsa. It's a fresh arch x86_64 installation. Udev detects my sound card.
The heart of the issue is that I am trying to use Ardour to make a audio tape for my Grandma and I am not getting any sound in the editing portion. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 and I have my HDMI cord hooked up to my Vizio television.
