So after setting up Xubuntu in my Acer Aspire One netbook everything runs smoothly.
However I normally use this netbook (1024x700 Resolution) together with a larger VGA desktop screen (because the netbook's screen is so darn tiny) and use the VGA as my main and the netbook's screen as my secondary screen.

I have two different setups I like to use in terminal and vim. One uses a light background and a somewhat fancy airline statusline in vim. The other uses a dark background and a more barebones vim appearance. I'm either wavering between the two out of indecision or just for a little variety once in a while.
What's a smart way to easily switch between these two configurations at will?
When I put my netbook into "Suspend" can I leave the A/C power connected? I have heard that battery life can be shortened by running your netbook/laptop on a/c power with the battery in and and as suspend is a low power mode will that have the same affect?
