MeeGo, the ill-fated Nokia mobile operating system project that had the plug pulled on it earlier this year, is being revived. JollaMobile, a company consisting of former Nokia executives and techies, has announced that it will release a new MeeGo smartphone later this year. That goal is reachable, said Rob Enderle, principal analyst at the Enderle Group.

Jolla, the Finnish MeeGo startup comprised of ex-Nokians building their own mobile hardware and Sailfish OS, has finally taken the wraps off its first handset, revealing what the hardware will look like on its website.

Legend has it that Anssi Vanjoki, the ex-Nokia VP who many inside the company once thought would be its next CEO, used to refer to the now-defunct MeeGo OS team as the “Alpha team” based on their hard work and ability to produce results with limited resources.
