I'm using htcdev unlocked boot loader with s-on and nik's jelly bean rooted ROM. I want to flash custom kernel . Is it possible with s-on device?

So, I own a Droid Razr Maxx and as the title suggests, I can not get jelly bean to update.
So, the phone is/was rooted. I wiped it to factory and I still have the custom boot screen and some custom icons. Is this the cause of the problem? Either way, can someone help me get rid of them? Thanks.
So I'm able to compile source code for my specific device and I'm able to compile custom a kernel. I flash them separately and they work. And I can replace boot.img inside the ROM to replace the stock kernel and that also works. I would like to compile custom kernel with the ROM instead of flashing and compiling them separating?
I searched for hours but failed to come up with a solution. I own Samsung Galaxy sII (SGH-I777). Please refer to the screen shot. It is rooted and unlocked. ICS with custom rom and kernal. I am trying to update to Jelly bean. Could someone please help me to do the upgrade? I would like to be rooted and unlocked after the upgrade. Appreciate any help.
I'm rooted and I really want to update my phone from 4.1.2. But, here's the issue: I want my phone to look COMPLETELY LIKE I had just bought it with Jelly Bean 4.3. I don't want any fancy custom ROMs, etc.
So, my choices are to unroot and go back to stock and get the OTA update(s) or to flash a custom ROM. BUT...I have NO IDEA which ROM will give me that complete stock look and feel.
