I am using Ubuntu 12.04.
Many time I have opened the Ubuntu Software Center and noticed that software long installed shows up as not installed. I have also noticed that some software to be downloaded have duplicate entries. I find this frustrating at times. Which do I download? I have used Synaptic when I had no clue. I know that it has nothing to do with updating the apt list.
Due to heavy rains my connection slowed down. Did this : Software sources--Ubuntu Software--Download from other--select best server.
The Ubuntu sources.list generator, is a web application that can create custom sources.list files for various version of Ubuntu. The sources.list file tells the packaging system where it can look for software to install. The generator can add many additional sources, including those for proprietary software.
I am running Linux for the first time and have installed Ubuntu 12.10, 64-bit OS on my laptop, alongside Windows 7. My question may be a stupid one since I am yet to begin discovering all of Ubuntu's features. The Software Center's History Section on my Ubuntu is showing a large list of files (software), installed on 17 October 2012, at 09:28 AM.
I just got a problem with software installation and software sources on my Ubuntu.
I cant use Application manager to install anything:
Could not download all repository indexes
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted...
I have ubuntu 12.04 on a dual boot laptop with Windows Vista
I installed partimage through software centre in Ubuntu (12.04).
But this software "partimage" is not shown in the list of installed software through dash. Hence I cannot use it even though software centre says it is installed.
What to do now?
I'm an absolute newby for Linux / Ubuntu. Yesterday I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on an old computer. It seemed to work fine. However today when I started the computer again the software center had disappeared!!
It wasn't in my starter list.
I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 and I would like to install additional drivers, but as the title says, it's not possible to start the Software Sources GUI. The Menu Entry in the Ubuntu Software-Center Edit > Software Sources is disabled and not clickable:
Can anybody tell me how I can start that Software-Sources dialogue?
Hope anybody can help...
