Hey guys, quick question about window managers. I'm currently using the LXDE spin of F17 and am considering checking out some other popular WMs.
Only issue is the last time I tried installing XFCE alongside gnome (I believe xfce was there first) it completely borked xfce ;/
So my question is, is there anything I should watch out for when installing alternative WMs?
Introduction To The Enlightenment 17 Window Manager For X (Ubuntu 11.10)
This tutorial is supposed to show some features of the Enlightenment window manager as an alternative to the often used Gnome and KDE managers. I will install Enlightenment on a desktop computer with Ubuntu
11.10 installed.
I like the way Xfce works on top of Linux Mint 14 Nadia (Quantal) - but I also like LXDE that I want to have in parallel. Mint 14 has no LXDE "version" now, and that is too bad.
I heard that installing multiple DE is not a problem. But ...
I am using Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64 with a Cinnamon desktop.
Today, out of the sudden, I was kicked from desktop to login screen. I entered my password and noticed that my window decorations disappeared. I ran:
sudo aptitude reinstall cinnamon
After that I wasn't even able to login (black screen and back to login screen).
Hello,
I have a problem with the taskbar (window list) in LXDE (latest Lubuntu release).
The window list doesn't expand to the full height of the taskbar, meaning that when my mouse cursor is at the very bottom of the screen i can't switch windows.
Here are 2 screenshots to illustrate the problem:
The cursor is at the very bottom of the screen, note how the panel is not active
Fedora 17 would let me choose my window manager on login; now with Fedora 18 not only can I not choose it on login, but I can't find a way to change it anywhere.
Is there a way to easily switch between window managers in Fedora 18?
I normally enjoy using Gnome 3 and gnome-shell in Fedora 16. However, I would like to temporarily run a non-compositing window manager such as metacity so that some wine games can have full control of the display.
I have metacity installed.
i recently upgraded my desktop to Fedora 12 from 11 with no issues. i also have a HP Pavilion zv5000 laptop that i am attempting to upgrade from F11 to F12. the previous install of F11 worked without issues. after installing F12 and rebooting i get the progressive blue/white bar at the bottom of the screen which completes the move from left to right.
I have just installed arch linux for the first time and I need to setup a window manager. I've chosen enlightenment and I installed it. I also installed entrance. Everything shows up fine at startup, but if I want to login using enlightenment the login screen just restarts.
