My wife get’s mad at me when I say that the average consumer is clueless when it comes to technology, but it’s true. She thinks I’m saying that people are dumb, but it’s not about that. Technology is so rapid nowadays that the average Joe just doesn’t have the time to read up on things like our readers and myself do. Sometimes I even feel behind the curve.
The iPhone 5 is now on sale in most launch markets starting today, and as daylight approaches on the U.S. west coast, the coveted device will be hitting that market as well. According to early reviews, it’s a great device, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the right one for everybody. Even if you’re still a potential iPhone buyer, the lineup has never looked so good.
Over on TechCrunch there’s a piece about how the iPhone 4 is set to become the most popular camera on Flickr. MG Siegler calls the rise in popularity of the Apple’s latest smartphone ’spectacular’ and ‘remarkable.’ Oh, something is ’spectacular’ and ‘remarkable’ alright, but it’s not the increase in popularity of the iPhone 4.
The iPhone 5 is real and nearly ready to ship and we got a bit of hands-on time with it today. The new phone is just a bit longer than the current iPhone 4S and far speedier. Maps and photos flew by and the various apps popped up in a few seconds.
It’s not as earth-shattering different than the iPhone 4S, to be sure.
Next week, Apple is expected to announce a new iPhone complete with a new dock connector, finally putting to bed the 30-pin design that’s been in use since time immemorial (so long as you can’t remember past nine years ago, like me).
Hope you already ordered your iPhone 5. Apple just updated the shipping estimate, pushing the window for all variations from 2-3 weeks to 3-4 weeks. And with good reason, too. It’s a great phone.
It’s the best iPhone yet per our MG Siegler and Engadget’s Tim Stevens. It’s much more than just a taller iPhone 4S.
The iPhone 5 delivered a lot of new things vs. its predecessors, but it also marked Apple’s exit from the bumper game; unlike with the iPhone 4 and 4S, Apple didn’t make a slim band exterior case for this device to protect its delicate edges.
And that’s a wrap! The Apple Store is back up now, following this morning’s announcement of the new LTE-enabled iPhone 5′s, which are going to be the same price as the iPhone 4S’s. To refresh your memory, that’s $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB, and $399 for 64GB (on-contract pricing with AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon).
Whether or not you’re an Apple fanboy or fangirl, it’s no secret that the iPhone has been selling like hotcakes. Every time Apple launches a new iPhone or iPhone(S), it seems that the Internet is about to explode.
